New entertainment museum in Paris showcases animation
Art Ludique, literally translated as "Art Fun", is the first museum in the world to focus entirely on entertainment. It opened its doors for the first time in the middle of November. The avant-garde architecture of the building overlooks the Seine, in an area that also houses another innovative museum, la Cité de la Mode et du Design, which focuses on fashion and design.
The idea of Art Ludique is to give a permanent home to the work of some of the most creative brains of our time, those who bring us comics, manga, animation and video games. With its first featured show, 'Pixar, 25 Years of Entertainment', Paris's newest museum has hit gold.
The exhibition started out at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2006, and has been drawing sell-out crowds world-wide ever since. It features unique artwork from some of the most successful animation features of all time, all from the creative geniuses who work at the Pixar studios in California. Pixar's astonishing journey started with the 'Toy Story' series and continued with 'Cars', 'The Incredibles', 'WALL-E', 'Finding Nemo' and 'Up' among many, many others. From the very first outline sketches and sculptures of favourite characters to storyboards for 'Toy Story' and others, you'll be able to see the painstaking work that's behind each of these spell-binding Pixar features.
