Par Nature exhibition is the major event of the new cultural season at the 104. Since 22nd September, this centre of artistic creation in the 19th arrondissement has been taking visitors on an amazing journey through its different spaces, interspersed with monumental works which evoke, each in their own way, the incessant search for nature.

Par nature exhibition: the complex relationship between man and his environment

Take advantage of your stay at the Hôtel de Suède to come and discover the creations on display for this collective exhibition, which brings together established and up-and-coming artists. From Egypt, India and Portugal, they offer up their own interpretation of the idea of nature.

Gu Dexin chooses to condemn our consumer society with his work evoking waste and destruction, while Moatzar Nasr invites the visitor to scale his installation. All showcase metaphoric compositions, alternately poetic, social or mythological, which inspire in each of us a fascinating reflection.

The Par nature exhibition, being staged at the 104 until 17th March 2013, plunges you into the heart of contemporary art, on a journey of reflection where you can even become part of the work!

Par nature, collective exhibition

Paris plages has proven, for more than ten years, to be one of the stronger moments of the summer in the capital, and has contributed to the happiness of tourists and Parisians alike! An operation launched by the city of Paris, Paris Plages allows for lounging on the sand along the banks of the Seine and for one to take advantage of sport and artistic activities organized in the framework of this much appreciated event.

Paris Plages on the banks of the Seine and at the Bassin de la Villette

Paris Plages 2010 required around 1,357 tons of sand to transform the banks of the Seine into a beach. The Bassin of the Villette and the route Georges Pompidou received millions of visitors who lived among the rhythms of the spectacle and its many festivities. Others lounged on the beach; a good between their hands thanks to the short-lived library.

In 2011, Paris Plages celebrated its 10th edition and three million people took advantage of the event. The large new attractions characterized this edition, like the transformation of the beach which stretched for one kilometer.

Paris plages 2012, le programme

For 4 weeks, from July 20th to August 19th, the route Georges Pompidou and the Bassin de la Villette will receive this year’s Paris Plages event. For this edition, music will be the highlight; so, from the 19th to the 22nd of July, the square of the Hotel de Ville will be transformed into a free concert scene. Canoe-kayak, oars, mini-golf, VTT Mountain Biking, and Roller Tube also figure into the program.

Paris plages 2012 : futher information

Montparnasse immediately makes you think of its railway stations and its skyscraper. But the quarter of Montparnasse, situated in the south of Paris, is equally well-known for being the refuge of artists; many of whom draw their inspiration and choose a place to relax their spirit.

Montparnasse, the artist’s quarter

Montparnasse is often associated with Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre. But other great names have also linked their destinies with this Parisian quarter including: Maupassant, Alfred Dreyfus and Serge Gainsbourg.

A number of artists, known as the “Montparnos”, turned Montparnasse into their general quarter between two wars. The Dome was a high point of culture in 1889 with Apollinaire and Matisse even deciding to establish themselves there. Even during the WWI Montparnasse didn’t lose a hint of its artistic side.

Montparnasse, Its train station and its skyscraper

The Montparnasse’s train station, such as it’s known today, is in reality its third version. The first rapidly became too small and gave way to the second, which was the scene of a grave accident in 1895. Built in the 1960’s around the Montparnasse skyscraper, the third station is for voyagers arriving or departing for the west and south west of France.

The Maine-Montparnasse skyscraper is characterized by the fact that it was constructed above subway lines. Known as one of the highest skyscrapers in France with its 210 meters, its construction was particularly complex on soil composed of clay, limestone, and chalk. This skyscraper houses a large number of offices, but it is also home to a large commercial center called the Galeries Lafayette. Don’t miss going to admire Paris from the 56th floor of the skyscraper where you will have a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole city. And to top it all off, take a stop at the restaurant Ciel de Paris!
