Musee Rodin : a cultural landmark 500m from the Hotel de Suede

The Musee Rodin is a real treasure trove of art!

Bon Marche Paris : founded in 1838, was the country’s very first department store. It was originally a haberdashery belonging to the Videau brothers, employing around a dozen people. Who could have guessed that this shop divided into 4 different sections would become one of the most prestigious stores in the world ? From the Hotel de Suede, it is just a 10 minute walk to this temple of shopping. What are you waiting for !

Bon Marche : the recommendation of the Hotel de Suede

In 1852, the Videau brothers joined forces with Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut who undertook to transform the Au Bon Marché store. Offering a wide choice, small profit margins allowing for low prices clearly indicated on labels, a satisfied or your « money back guarantee », « merchandising of the products in a sales area », the couple had just invented the concept of the department store !

However, these two visionaries alarmed the Videau brothers, who sold them their share Bon Marche in 1863. By 1869, the store’s success was such that the Boucicauts extended it and soon Au Bon Marché stretched over 50000m² and employed more than 1700 people. The oldest French department store, renamed Le Bon Marché in 1989, has not stopped growing since.

In this building, steeped in history and within quick and easy reach of the Hotel de Suede, you can find the biggest brands in ladies, men’s and children’s fashions. Le Bon Marché also offers a wide selection of accessories, cosmetics and ideas for interiors, as well as a fine foods department: la Grande Epicerie. Take advantage of your stay at the Hotel de Suede to enjoy an unforgettable shopping experience !

Par Nature exhibition is the major event of the new cultural season at the 104. Since 22nd September, this centre of artistic creation in the 19th arrondissement has been taking visitors on an amazing journey through its different spaces, interspersed with monumental works which evoke, each in their own way, the incessant search for nature.

Par nature exhibition: the complex relationship between man and his environment

Take advantage of your stay at the Hôtel de Suède to come and discover the creations on display for this collective exhibition, which brings together established and up-and-coming artists. From Egypt, India and Portugal, they offer up their own interpretation of the idea of nature.

Gu Dexin chooses to condemn our consumer society with his work evoking waste and destruction, while Moatzar Nasr invites the visitor to scale his installation. All showcase metaphoric compositions, alternately poetic, social or mythological, which inspire in each of us a fascinating reflection.

The Par nature exhibition, being staged at the 104 until 17th March 2013, plunges you into the heart of contemporary art, on a journey of reflection where you can even become part of the work!

Par nature, collective exhibition

New Year’s Eve: Ring in the New Year in style with the Hôtel de Suède

New Year’s Eve is always a festive occasion in Paris! This year, prepare to be entertained and opt for a celebration full of seasonal cheer.

Why not welcome in the New Year in a Big Top? The Diana Moreno Bormann circus offers an evening combining gastronomy, a show and a night of dancing.
For some 1960s French pop, take in the Salut les Copains show at the Folies Bergères!

Christmas windows at the Galeries Lafayette have an added dimension this winter 2012, as the department store on the Boulevard Haussmann is also celebrating the 100th anniversary of its famous dome. As part of the sumptuous Christmas of the Century celebrations to mark the occasion, the displays in its 12 windows have been designed by Louis Vuitton. And the result certainly lives up to the prestige of the event!

Christmas windows, on display until mid-January

Louis Vuitton was inspired by this anniversary to stage an incredible Ball of the Century, whose guests are none other than a host of facetious exotic animals. Onlookers can enjoy a spectacular show performed by bears, pandas, flamingos and penguins!
These delightful dancers from all four corners of the world also remind us of travel, the inspiration for Louis Vuitton’s cult range of luggage! These 2012 Christmas windows for Galeries Lafayette are an opportunity for fans of the famous brand to discover or rediscover its most emblematic bags, leather goods and clothes.

The Musee Maillol Paris, a few minutes’ walk from the Hotel de Suede Paris, is a fascinating place created in 1995 by Dina Vierny. For 10 years, she was the muse of the French sculptor Aristide Maillol and she invested in this private residence in the 7th arrondissement of Paris to exhibit, besides the works of Maillol, an important collection of modern 20th century art.

Musee Maillol Paris: 17 years of work

Dina Vierny engaged the architect Pierre Devinoy, a pupil of Auguste Perret, to renovate the building which she acquired in the late 1970s. Seventeen years later, 51 years after the death of the artist, the Maillol Museum finally opened its doors!

Since then it has hosted a number of particularly exciting temporary exhibitions, including one which will run from 19 September honoring the works of the Venetian Canaletto (1697-1768).
